The basic principle of biological denitrification is to use some specific microbial groups in activated sludge to convert organic nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen in the water into nitrogen gas under a specific environment to ultimately achieve the purpose of denitrification. Biological denitrification consists of three stages. First, ammonifying bacteria convert organic nitrogen in the water into ammonia nitrogen. This process is called ammonification. Secondly, nitrifying bacteria convert ammonia nitrogen into nitrate nitrogen under aerobic conditions, which is called nitrifying process. Finally, during the denitrification process, denitrifying bacteria convert nitrate nitrogen into nitrogen gas under anoxic conditions, allowing it to escape from the water to achieve the purpose of nitrogen removal. The ammonia nitrogen analyzer using the ion selection method is suitable for this method of sewage treatment. There are many methods for detecting ammonia nitrogen, such as Nessler's reagent spectrophotometry, salicylic acid spectrophotometry, titration, etc. Each method has its own advantages. Nessler's reagent spectrophotometry is easy to operate and sensitive. Interfering determinations such as calcium, magnesium, iron and other metal ions, sulfides, aldehydes and ketones, color, and turbidity in water require corresponding preparation treatment. Salicylic acid spectrophotometry is sensitive and stable, and the interference conditions and elimination methods are the same as those of Nessler's reagent spectrophotometry. The electrode method usually does not require pretreatment of water samples and has a wide measurement range. When the ammonia nitrogen content is high, the distillation-acid titration method is generally used.
