Fluoride exists widely in nature and is also one of the normal tissues of the human body. Too much or too little intake of fluoride ions in daily life will be harmful to the human body. Usually the fluorine content in drinking water shall not exceed 1mg/L. The content of fluoride ions needs to be strictly controlled, less than 0.5mg/L will cause dental caries, and more than 0.5~1.5mg/L will cause dental plaque. The methods for measuring fluorine content in water include distillation colorimetry and fluoride ion selective electrode method. Distillation colorimetry is time consuming, while ion selection is very simple and fast. Daruifuno's fluoride ion electrode is an ion selective electrode. So what is ion selection method? It has a selective response to a specific ion. It can convert the specific ion content in the solution into the corresponding potential, so as to realize the conversion from chemical quantity to electrical quantity, and measure the ion concentration in the solution.

Composition of fluoride ion electrode
The electrode with Nernst response between the electrode potential and the ion activity to be measured in the solution becomes the indicator electrode. In the ion selective electrode method of fluoride measurement, the fluorine electrode is the indicator electrode. Under the condition of a certain temperature, the electrode potential is known and does not change with the composition of the solution to be measured. In the ion selective electrode method for the determination of fluoride, the calomel electrode is used as the reference electrode. The membrane potential of the fluoride ion electrode changes with the change of the fluoride ion activity in the test solution, and this response conforms to the Nernst equation between the potential and the activity within a certain activity range.
In actual measurement, all ion electrodes are affected by interfering ions to varying degrees. Therefore, selectivity is one of the most important performance indicators of ion electrodes. The detection limit of the fluoride ion selective electrode is generally 1*10-7~1*10-5mol/L. Factors that affect the lower limit of detection usually include:
1. The solubility of the active material of the electrode membrane in the solution, that is, the lower limit of determination cannot be lower than the solubility of the active material of the electrode membrane.
2. Test method and composition of solution

Fluoride ion electrode life
The lifetime of an electrode is generally defined as the time it can maintain its function according to the Nernst equation. Factors affecting electrode life are usually mechanical damage, chemical corrosion of sensitive membranes, continuous use in hot or corrosive solutions, and the life may be only a few days or even shorter. Normal use usually lasts up to 1-2 years.
