Overview

Current electronic devices communicate with computers through serial ports. RS485 is one of the traditional serial interfaces widely used at present. RS485 is very common in industrial automation and is used in industrial networks, including Modbus, profibus DP, ARCNET, BitBus, WorldFip, LON, Interbus and other non-standard networks. Currently, the serial RS485 port is considered the most efficient method of serial communication. The online pH controller developed and produced by Daruifuno has a two-wire RS485 interface. So what exactly is RS485?

RS485, also called TIA-485 or EIA-485, is a standard interface for the physical communication layer, a signal transmission method, and the first level of the open system interconnection model. RS485 was created to extend the physical functions of the RS-232 interface. Its advantage are: bidirectional data exchange through a pair of twisted pairs; support for multiple transceivers connected to the same line, that is, the ability to create a network, long communication lines, and fast transmission speeds.

The RS-485 standard is widely used in industrial applications that operate over long distances and require high-speed data transmission. This interface is particularly useful for connecting serial devices in noisy environments such as process control plants, utility sites, and factories. RS485 ports are embedded in a variety of devices, including low-speed modems, programmable logic controllers, computer numerical control machine tools, point-of-sale terminals, metering instruments, large-scale specialized automation machines, and other equipment. Online pH controller is a kind of instrument. Its main function is to continuously monitor the pH value of water quality online. How to output the monitored value? The instrument is equipped with a two-wire RS485 interface, which can transmit signals with other receiving devices of the user through two signal lines A and B. Compared with the traditional 4-20mA current output, the online pH controller with RS485 for data transmission has the following advantages:

1. Using balanced transmission andd differential reception, it has good anti-interference ability and the signal can be transmitted up to 1200 meters.

2. RS485 can connect up to 32 nodes on the same bus, enabling true multi-point communication.

3. The pH controller with RS485 interface has good anti-interface ability when transmitting data.

4. Support high-security transmission to prevent data from being tampered with.

In the past, online water quality analysis instruments used 4-20mA current to transmit data. Although this method is simple, it is not accurate and easy to be interfered.
